Here's when Okemo will open for the 2025-26 season [Updated]

OkemoZone |

10/27 Update: Okemo announced this morning that their target opening date is Saturday, November 22, assuming the weather cooperates!

When will Okemo open this year? We can't know for sure, but we can look look back at the opening dates of the last several years to make an educated guess.

Year Avg Nov. Temp Opening Date Trails Lifts
2016 37.74 Wednesday, November 23 7 3
2017 35.38 Saturday, November 11 5 2
2018 33.51 Friday, November 16 10 3
2019 32.36 Saturday, November 23 25 7
2020 37.99 Wednesday, November 25 9 2
2021 35.94 Friday, November 26 5 2
2022 41.11 Saturday, November 19 11 3
2023 35.50 Friday, November 17 6 2
2024 41.80 Sunday, December 1 10 3

The average of these dates  is November 21.

From this data we can identify 3 factors that influence when Okemo opens.

1. Day of week
Generally, they open on Fridays or Saturdays. Friday and Saturday appear 3 times each, Sunday once and Wednesdays twice. This makes sense as more people are likely to ski on the weekend when they're off from work .

2. Thanksgiving
Both years when there was a Wednesday opening, it was the day before Thanksgiving. Again, if people are off for Thanksgiving, Okemo wants to be open if they can.

3. Temperature
Generally, the colder the November, the earlier the opening. Temperatures need to stay low overnight to allow snowmaking. The anomaly is 2022 which had a higher average temperature, but an earlier than usual opening. In that year, There were some very warm days in early November (77 degrees on the 5th!) before a cold front came in on the 14th. Last year, Okemo didn't open until December 1st because the nighttime temperatures didn't drop consistently until the 25th.

What this means for 2025

This year, November 21 is on a Friday and Thanksgiving is on November 27th. That makes the average day over the last 9 years, November 21, an ideal day to open - assuming cold weather comes in. If not, we can hope for November 26th to be able to strap on those boots burn to off all that Thanksgiving turkey.

Even when opening day comes, don't expect a lot of skiable acres. Typically only the A or B Quad lifts are open along with the Sunburst Six. With that you'll get a few beginner trails at the base and a couple from the summit. But once the temperatures stay low, they'll make snow aggressively to open up Solitude, Jackson Gore and finally Southface.

We'll be watching as November's weather approaches and update our prediction when more data comes in.
